Sire De Grugy may miss Kempton - Moore
Trainer Gary Moore has revealed Tingle Creek winner Sire De Grugy is likely to miss a Christmas showdown with Sprinter Sacre in the Desert Orchid chase at Kempton.
The pair were set to clash in the Tingle Creek Chase on December 7 at Sandown, before champion trainer Nicky Henderson was forced to pull out Sprinter Sacre after his horse returned a dirty tracheal wash. Sire De Grugy won the Grade One race for Moore.
Henderson went on to confirm Sprinter Sacre, who is unbeaten in ten starts over fences, would race in the Desert Orchid on December 28 - but racing fans may now be forced to wait for the two stars to go head-to-head after Moore admitted he was looking to the Clarence House Chase at Ascot instead.
"Nothing is cast in stone right now, but I've spoken with the owner and we might just decide to miss Christmas altogether with Sire De Grugy," Moore said. "I'm highly tempted to sit tight and wait for Ascot."
The Clarence House Chase takes place on January 18.
