Trainer Phillip Hobbs has confirmed Captain Chris will not run in the King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day after he suffered an injury during schooling.

The nine-year-old, who finished runner-up in last year's race, injured a joint at the Somerset yard, but Hobbs is hopeful the horse will be back in action on January 11.

Captain Chris was beaten by a neck as Long Run took the 2012 title at Kempton, and was priced around the 10/1 mark to claim victory on Thursday.

"He won't be running on Boxing Day. He's banged a joint schooling, it's nothing serious but he won't be running," Hobbs said.
