The first foal of champion racehorse Frankel has been born in Ireland.

Mare Chrysanthemum gave birth at Coolmore Stud on Saturday, and a spokesman for the owners Juddmonte Farms said: "From the reports I've received, his first foal is everything we could have hoped for."

Frankel mated with 133 mares at Banstead Manor Farm near Newmarket between February and June of last year. The stallion won all 14 of his races, and since retiring to stud, fetched an estimated £15 million in his first season.
