Tony McCoy rode his 200th winner of the season on Wednesday as he steered Palermo Don in the closing race at Haydock.

Champion jockey McCoy reached the landmark on board the Donald McCain-trained favourite, which was odds on, in the final race. Palermo Don finished three lengths clear of Pied Du Roi in second.

It was third time lucky on the day for McCoy, who earlier came close with two second-placed finishes on board 9/2 second favourite Presented in the card's opener and Discovery Bay in the fourth race.

McCoy has been named Britain's champion jump jockey for the past 18 years and is well on course for a 19th consecutive title.

Previously, McCoy has broken the 200-mark on seven occasions, with his highest ever total of 289 winners in a single season coming in 2001/02.
