Miss France provided French trainer Andre Fabre with a maiden victory in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket on Sunday.

In a top-class field for the first fillies' Classic of the season, Miss France, ridden by Maxime Guyon, held off Lightning Thunder in a thrilling finish.

The victory ensured a full house of British Classic wins for veteran Fabre, who said: "It means a lot and I couldn't be more delighted.

"I was a bit perturbed when she hit the front so early as she idles. It wasn't the way I wanted her ridden but it worked.

"It wasn't bothering me that I hadn't won this race, otherwise I'd have tried many times before."

Saeed bin Suroor's Ihtimal ran in third.
