Two-time champion jockey Paul Hanagan won his first Classic after riding Taghrooda to glory in the Oaks at Epsom.

Taghrooda (5-1), daughter of 2009 Derby winner Sea The Stars, won convincingly by three and three-quarter lengths.

There was a one-two for owner Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum with Pat Smullen riding Tarfasha (9-2) to a second-placed finish while Volume (9-1) was third having led for most of the way.

"It went like clockwork. I'd been planning it like that for about a month in my head," said Hanagan.

Taghrooda, trained in Newmarket by John Gosden, gave Al Maktoum a third Oaks success following wins for Salsabil in 1990 and Eswarah in 2005.

The race was run in memory of Sir Henry Cecil, who died last June. He saddled eight winners of the Oaks between 1985 and 2007.
