Harbinger stunned overwhelming favourite Workforce to streak to victory by 11 lengths in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot.

Derby winner Workforce, the odds-on favourite, started strongly, tucked behind early leader Confront. But Olivier Peslier produced a perfectly-timed charge to steer Sir Michael Stoute's four-year-old to a stunning victory.

In a new course record, Harbinger kicked with two furlongs to go, passing the Epsom hero and then the Irish Derby winner Cape Blanco to win by a substantial margin.

Cape Blanco, under the guidance of Aidan O'Brien, finished second, with Youmzain third. Workforce could only manage fifth, while early leader Confront faded.

"You can imagine how I felt in the last furlong when I saw the big screen and I could see the others so far behind," winning jockey Peslier said. "The horse today is the king, he is a wonderful horse

"I knew he was very good, but today he was flying and won so well - he's very good. He travelled the way I wanted and he kept going, I didn't have to ask him anything. He was just flying. He is a champion."
