McLaren finally making progress

Jenson Button is confident McLaren has finally made a good step forward with its car at this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix.

Button was ninth fastest and 0.916s off the pace at the end of second practice, but believes the updates on the MP4-28 have made a difference. He said the car is not particularly suited to the Hungaroring but would show its true potential at the next race at Spa-Francorchamps.

"I think that the parts we have on the car are definitely helping," he said. "It's quite an unusual circuit and I think when we get to a more open circuit like Spa we will see a bigger improvement. I'm happy with how we've moved forward. Red Bull are very strong here, we've seen that in the past, but I don't think our pace is too bad. We won't be fighting for a podium but we'll be fighting for some good points."

Asked whether he could make an impact on the top ten in qualifying, Button said: "We were ninth today. I don't know if we can go better than that because all the cars in front are quick cars and have always been better than us [this year]. The car has improved so hopefully we'll have a little snap at them."
