Perez: Error led to shunt
Sergio Perez concedes he should have been less punchy with the throttle through the final corner after his accident which triggered the second safety car period of the Hungarian Grand Prix.
On lap 23 Perez was running in eighth when he lost his car coming through the final corner, sliding across the track and into the wall in a nasty-looking shunt. The track had dried out from the pre-race shower which meant the field started on intermediates but Perez admits he had been pushing too hard.
"It was really difficult, the track conditions were really difficult out there," Perez said. "You are always trying to explore the limits on a track like this. Unfortunately towards the end of the lap I put the power a bit too much or while the tyre was jumping on the kerb I just lot the back end of the car."
Despite his second trip to the medical centre in four races Perez insists he is fine following the crash.
"No, thankfully everything is alright. It looked bigger than it was, it was a big shunt but I hit forward so I went in on the front and not the side of the car."
Nico Hulkenberg also retired from proceedings in Hungary as Force India left without a single point, something Perez says is a big shame given the unpredictable nature of the race.
"It's been a difficult weekend but we had good points available so it's a shame we weren't able to make more out of it."
