Grosjean hoping to force Red Bull error
Romain Grosjean is hoping to have another opportunity to take the fight to Red Bull this weekend in India but admits it will be tough with the gap in performance to Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber.
Last weekend in Japan Grosjean spent the majority of the race battling both Red Bulls despite having a slower car, and after Friday practice he was their closest rival again in India. However, he is wary of the outright pace Webber and Vettel showed.
"I think the two Red Bull cars are 0.5s a lap quicker than we are, then there is myself and a bit of a gap," he said. "The idea is to create opportunities, push them as hard as we can and as far as we can and as much as we can. But on paper, if we look at their pace, it's going to be hard."
Lotus appeared to be able to run longer on the soft tyres, but Grosjean is not sure it will be a big advantage in the race.
"If we get one lap more than they do [out of the softs] it will be the maximum, but then you lose them if you cannot pit before," he said. "That's not the advantage so we are not thinking of going very long on the option because at the moment they are just blistering like crazy and I don't think there is much we can do in that aspect.
"We had a fantastic start in Suzuka and it's not going to be the same story every week. We need to push as hard as we can behind them and take any opportunities. You never know, they can have issues, a bad pit stop or fall into traffic. The best we can do is try to give 100% and see where we are at the end.
"At least at the end you can say you've pushed as hard as you could and you can be proud of your team. What can I do if they [Red Bull] are just quicker?"
