Indian GP circuit on schedule

Work on the venue of the inaugural Indian Grand Prix is on schedule, despite heavy monsoons delaying construction in 2010.

According to a report in India's Mail Today, the grandstands at the circuit outside New Delhi have been built and the first layer of track has been laid. To ensure work is completed on time 4,000 workers have been drafted in to work over two shifts.

The chief operating officer of construction at the site, Boris Lazaric, said he was confident the circuit would impress at the inaugural race on October 30.

"It's one of the best tracks with ample opportunities to overtake," he told Mail Today. "There will be a good challenge to the drivers. As for construction, everything is going as per schedule."

In 2010 the organisers of the Korean Grand Prix left the finishing touches to their circuit to the last minute after heavy rains delayed the laying of the track. However, Jaypee Sports International, who are behind the organisation of the Indian Grand Prix, expect to have the track in the town of Greater Noida completed as early as May.
