Scotland scrum-half Rory Lawson is hopeful he can say a proper farewell to Gloucester's Kingsholm faithful when he returns as part of the Barbarians squad.

Last Friday Lawson announced that he would be leaving Gloucester after six seasons to join Newcastle Falcons. However as he missed the end of the season with a groin injury he didn't have the chance to make a final appearance in the cherry and white shirt.

With Kingsholm due to host Ireland's match against the Barbarians he now has the opportunity for one more match in front of Gloucester's fans.

"I could possibly get my Barbarians debut at Kingsholm," Lawson told Gloucester's website. "There is one England game first, but certainly in terms of the tour, it would be great for me to get back to playing at Kingsholm, that would be fantastic. It would obviously be unbelievable to have a lot of the Gloucester fans, who have been there for us in the six years I have been at the club, to be there as well because I would really like to thank them for their support.

"It has always been an ambition of mine for a long time and Barbarians are a club that have such amazing history. It is fantastic to be a part of. My dad (Alan Lawson) played for them on a number of times so it is something that is a great experience. It is something that I have always admired what they are about and it has been an ambition of mine growing up in Scotland to play for them so it is fantastic I am now being offered the opportunity."

The Barbarians play England at Twickenham on May 27, Ireland two days later and Wales on June 2.
