Perpignan lock Rimas Alvarez Kairelis made his international debut for Argentina against Paraguay in 1998, while playing his club rugby for amateur side Pucara, for whom he played until 2001.
After his initial introduction to the international stage, he had to wait two and a half years for his next taste, which eventually came in May 2001 against Uruguay in Kingston. After moving to Perpignan he became a more regular member of the international setup and was selected for the Rugby World Cup in 2003. He played three games during the tournament in Australia.
He played both Tests against Wales in 2006, a series that Argentina won comfortably, before playing at his second Rugby World Cup in 2007. In France he was used mainly as a replacement, but played in seven games as Argentina reached the semi-finals.
In 2008 he toured South Africa with the Pumas before starting all three of their November internationals, including an appearance on the flank in a win over Italy.
