Richard Hamilton-Wickes, who won ten caps for England on the wing between 1924 and 1927 and was in the legendary 1924 England Grand Slam team, was one of rugby's first glamour boys. Fair of hair and good-looking, the Times reported when he scored for Harlequins it would be greeted with "screams of delight seldom accorded to less attractive men". The same paper noted while not fast he "was a most determined, well balanced, and deceptively swerving runner". Hamilton-Wickes, who won a Blue in all three years he was at Cambridge, died in a fire at a nursing home he ran.
