Bath have suffered a massive blow ahead of their clash with Montpellier at the weekend with the news that hooker Lee Mears will be out for eight weeks.

The British & Irish Lions hooker suffered a bicep injury in training last week and missed Bath's opening clash of the 2011-12 Heineken Cup with Glasgow on Sunday. And Sir Ian McGeechan has confirmed that the 32-year-old had ripped the muscle from the bone.

Mark Lilley has been called into the Heineken Cup squad as Mears' replacement. Mears has only recently returned to the Bath fold after being part of the 30-man England squad which journeyed to New Zealand for the 2011 World Cup. With England suffering from uncertainty behind the scenes, Mears now faces a race against time to prove his fitness ahead of the 2012 Six Nations.
