Care was handed a £3,100 fine and a driving-ban of 16 months after being stopped on New Year's Day and found to be more than twice the legal limit. Care was subsequently kicked out of the Six Nations squad by Stuart Lancaster. Harlequins handed Care an undisclosed fine - believed to be in the region of £10,000 - after his New Year's Day incident came to light, but O'Shea is adamant the scrum-half can come back a better player for it.
O'Shea described Care as a "brilliant bloke who made a terrible decision" and "a special player".
"In terms of his rugby play I wouldn't swap Danny for anybody," O'Shea told the Daily Mirror. "He's a guy who makes things happen. A special player. On a personal level I'm both frustrated at him and for him.
"Knowing what he does off the pitch 99% of the time, you honestly couldn't ask for a nicer person. If I was to choose somebody at the club to look after my kids I'd pick Danny because I know he'd make them the centre of his universe.
"He has made a couple of bad decisions and he's paid a pretty high price for it. But does he have an issue with alcohol? Not even remotely. Will he back stronger for this? I have no doubt."
