Ulster star Stephen Ferris looks likely to miss their Heineken Cup quarter-final showdown with Munster on Sunday.

The 26-year-old back-row sustained an ankle injury in their 45-7 win over Aironi last Friday. And an Ulster spokesman has confirmed the province's worst fears saying: "The scan revealed significant damage to Stevie's left ankle and it is unlikely that he'll be available for Sunday.

"That the game is on a Sunday, and therefore provides an extra day of healing, provides some hope but it remains very unlikely."

In Ferris' place, The Irish Times claims that the likely make up of the back-row is Willie Faloon at openside, Chris Henry at blindside and Pedrie Wannenberg anchoring the scrum at No.8.

And Ulster lock Johann Muller is relishing the chance to face up against their old foes Munster. "Playing another Irish team in the quarters is a bit of a Catch 22 situation - it has both its good and its bad points," Muller said. "Munster are the top side in this season's Heineken Cup, they finished the Pool stages as the number one ranked team, so obviously they are the leading team in Europe right now.

"This will be the first time the clubs have met in the Heineken Cup but we play them regularly in the domestic league so we know what to expect from them and there should not be any great surprises for either team.

"However, the quarter-final is going to be incredibly tough, no doubt about that, but if we want to go at least one better that than last year then we have to go to Thomond Park and get the win that would take us into the last four."
