Simon Easterby has been named as Scarlets' head coach following Nigel Davies' departure to take over as director of rugby at Gloucester.

Easterby had previously been defence coach for the Llanelli-based side after playing over 200 times for the club. The former Ireland and Lions international will be assisted by newly appointed forwards coach Danny Wilson, backs coach Mark Jones and conditioning coach Brad Harringon.

"Under Nigel's leadership, the development of our coaching group over the last two years has been as significant as that of our players, with Simon and Mark taking ownership of key areas of performance on the field," Scarlets chief executive Mark Davies said. "With the addition of Danny as a highly regarded technically focused forwards coach, this group will ensure we progress in all areas of our game."

The Yorkshire-born Easterby joined Llanelli as a player in 1999 and captained the side for five consecutive seasons before he was forced to retire with a knee injury in 2010. He was capped 65 times for Ireland and won two caps on the 2005 Lions tour to New Zealand.
