British & Irish Lions Test winger Tommy Bowe will start his first game in the RaboDirect PRO12 for more than nine months on Friday after being named in Ulster's starting line-up for their match with the Cardiff Blues.

The match will be first time supporters of Ulster get to see the Ireland winger in action after he rejoined the province following his four-year spell with the Ospreys. Bowe played for the province back in the 2003-4 season up to the end of 2007-08 campaign before making the switch to the Welsh region. In that spell, Bowe established himself as one of the northern hemisphere's premier finishers at both domestic and Test level.

But Bowe's Ospreys career ended prematurely just after Ulster's announcement that he was to re-join the province. He was forced to undergo an operation in April to remove a haematoma that was pushing into his kidney and causing him raised bloody pressure - his final game for the Ospreys was against Biarritz back in January.

It will be an emotional occasion at the Cardiff Arms Park on Friday evening as it will be the first game the province have played since the tragic death of Nevin Spence.
