Leinster are unsure when Brian O'Driscoll will return from the injury he sustained against Cardiff Blues on September 27.

Ireland's most-capped player tore his calf in the match and missed their Heineken Cup opener against Ospreys last Saturday. And he has been omitted from their squad for the game against Castres at the weekend.

There is no indication of when O'Driscoll will be fit to return and fears are growing he may not be back on the field in time to take part in Ireland's match against Samoa on November 9. When asked about O'Driscoll's fitness, Leinster boss Matt O'Connor told the Irish Times: "He is still struggling with that calf but the medics are pretty confident he'll be involved some time soon.

"It's a little bit loose. Calf strains are calf strains. It is ticking the box day on day to see where he gets to. We hope he plays next week. He may or may not. It is yet to be determined. It is certainly not going to be months but who knows?"
