Ireland flanker Stephen Ferris has signed a new short-term deal with Ulster.

The back-row last played for Ulster in November 2012 and has been out of action with both shoulder and knee injuries. His deal with the province was due to end in January, but according to the Irish Examiner, Ferris has signed a new contract though the length of it is not known.

While Ferris looks set to stay at Ulster a while longer, the province is bracing itself for captain Johann Muller to retire at the end of the season. Reports in the Daily Mail say Muller has a new one-year contract on the table, but is likely to return to South Africa and take over his family's farm in Mossel Bay.
