Concussed Craig Clarke's career at crossroads

Craig Clarke is taking a sustained break from rugby after sustaining his 10th concussion in 22 months while playing for Irish province Connacht at the weekend.

The two-time Super Rugby-winning former Chiefs captain signed a three-year deal to join the Irish province last year, but Connacht coach Pat Lam said his second-row now was "a big concern".

"At this stage he is going to be unavailable indefinitely, until there is a bit more testing and so forth," Lam told The Score.

"It is obviously a big blow for us but you can just not mess around with that sort of situation. The players had a week off after the Saracens game but he was suffering even last week. Obviously we favour investigations but more importantly it is just time."

Clarke's plight will draw further attention to the issue of concussion and head injuries in rugby.
