The Chiefs continue to be cut down by injury as Super Rugby begins its run to the play-offs with in-form winger James Lowe the latest player to feel the effects of the physical 2015 season.

Lowe will miss the remainder of the regular season and is only a slim chance of returning in the playoffs, should the Chiefs qualify, after scans on his shoulder revealed significant cartilage damage.

The 22-year-old winger picked up the injury in the Chiefs' controversial four-point loss to the Hurricanes at the weekend, where Michael Allardice had already added to the Hamilton franchise's injury crisis at lock via a ruptured medial cruciate ligament. Chiefs coach Dave Rennie has been forced to call on veteran Ross Filipo as cover at lock but, luckily, has far more depth in the outside backs with Tim Nanai-Williams back from Samoa Sevens duty.

Star centre Sonny Bill Williams was a late scratching from last week's loss to the Hurricanes and he remains sidelined, meaning Anton Lienert-Brown will again start in the midfield against the Bulls on Friday night.
