Ross Ford and Jonny Gray have both been cited for alleged acts of foul play during Scotland's 36-33 victory over Samoa that put them into the last eight of the Rugby World Cup.

The Scotland forwards face a hearing on Tuesday, with their quarterfinal against Australia taking place at Twickenham on Sunday.

Australia forward David Pocock has also been given a warning - the equivalent of a yellow card - after an incident with Wales' Scott Baldwin during their crucial Pool A win over Wales.

"A combination of three yellow cards or Citing Commissioner Warnings accumulated during the tournament will result in a hearing. Pocock is therefore free to play in Australia's quarter-final against Scotland," World Rugby said.

Meanwhile, prop Alasdair Dickinson feels Scotland are capable of going further into this tournament, despite the Wallabies being the heavy favourites at Twickenham.

Front-row colleague WP Nel has even backed the Scot for a surprise bid for the title, though Dickinson was more cautious when asked if he shared his team-mate's confidence.

He said: "It's a tough question to answer ... Cheers WP.

"I'm pretty old school. For me, it's just the next game. When you start thinking too far ahead, you're going to slip up. It doesn't bother me that we're being written off though. If you look at it on paper who would think we have a chance? That's just the way it is.

"I wouldn't say anybody is going to say that Scotland are going to win. You might get the odd one putting a tenner on us, chancing his arm.Or, no, if he's Scottish it wouldn't be a tenner it would be 50p.

"But there's no point in shouting your mouth off. It's better to go about your business aiming to win. I'm pretty sure most of the Australian media will be talking about the semi-final already but for us this is our final. We got through the group which was our first objective."
