UCC lose out in final
February 24, 2000

University College Cork were unsuccessful in their bid to retain the European Students Crown, losing out to the University of Bayonne 19-6 on Wednesday evening.
In almost perfect conditions, UCC met the typical fast running style of French play head on and in phases possessed the ability to dominate territorially, but ultimately were unable to build a score from which to threaten the home side.
The Irish side were guilty of some fatal lapses of concentration in an otherwise hotly contested match against a French side who produced an excellent forward display. Daniel Larrechea kicked 14 points for the home side, including the conversion of the only try of the match, from scrum half Patrick Cazaux. The Cork side could only reply with two penalties from Brian O'Mahony
