Six Nations dates rearranged

The Six Nations Committee has rearranged the dates for the outstanding 2001 Six Nations games.

The three matches which were postponed from March and April due to the foot and mouth epidemic in the UK will be played in September and October.

Ireland will face Scotland at Murrayfield on September 22 and then face a gruelling two games in eight days when they travel to Cardiff on October 13 and entertain England at Lansdowne road on October 20. All three games will kick off at 3pm.

Speaking after the announcement Alan Hosie, Chairman of the Six Nations Committee, said "I am very happy that in these difficult circumstances unanimity prevailed. The committee were particularly appreciative of the IRFU in agreeing to play two Six Nations matches on consecutive Saturdays."

The Irish Union's two officials on the Committee, Syd Miller and Noel Murphy, also expressed their thanks to the Six Nations board for their "patience and understanding" after the Irish had cancelled the games in an effort to keep the disease out of the Irish Republic.
