ARU expects rush on Lions tickets
May 11, 2001

Tickets for the Wallabies' First Test against the Lions at the Gabba in Brisbane are expected to sell in one hour when they go on sale on Saturday morning.

The tickets, available through Ticketek, will sell quickly due to the overwhelming demand compared with ground capacity (37,000) and the range of allocations to rugby bodies and other membership groups.

Among this group are as many as 8000 British and Irish tourists on tour packages.

"I would expect tickets to the Test to sell out within an hour of going on sale on Saturday," Australian Rugby Union managing director John O'Neill said. "Sadly, there will be many disappointed people, but we are looking at providing other ways of keeping people in touch the excitement."

The ARU has announced on-sale dates for all of the Wallaby Tests in Australia in 2001:

  • v NZ Maori, SFS, Sydney, June 9 - May 22
  • v Lions, Gabba, Brisbane, June 30 - May 12
