O'Driscoll in possible fullback switch
June 4, 2001

As Graham Henry puts his Lions through their paces on the training paddocks of Perth, Ireland centre sensation Brian O'Driscoll has been lining up at fullback during the team runs.

The Leinster player, capped exclusively at centre for Ireland in the past is being tried in an unfamilar role during the team's open training sessions. The two players originally selected at fullback are the England and Bath pair of Iain Balshaw and Matt Perry.

It may be an exercise in keeping the opposition guessing, and when quizzed on the switch, Lions Manager Donal Lenihan told the Irish Times: "well, you can see the quality of centres we have."

The tourists open their account on Friday evening with a match against Western Australia at the WACA in Perth.
