Robinson praying for "greatest achievement"
July 4, 2001

Lions star Jason Robinson has claimed a Test series win over Australia would be the greatest achievement of his career - just nine months after he was branded a ``traitor'' for switching codes.

Robinson has made a dramatic impact on the union stage since joining Sale from Wigan last October - and sealed his seamless transition to the game with the second-minute try that set the Lions on their way to the opening Test rout over Australia on Saturday.

And the 26-year-old winger has now revealed the hardship he endured when moving to union after 302 appearances in a Wigan shirt.

He told the Daily Mail: ``I got a fair amount of abuse when I switched to union and some of the messages on my website were not very nice. They said: `You are a traitor. We have lost all respect for you.'

``But I wasn't bothered. Before I joined Sale, Wigan offered me more money to stay and I had prayed for six months for guidance to help me make the right decision.

``I won everything there was to win in league with Wigan, but to do the same in another sport is an altogether different matter.''

Robinson said he had not even watched a game of rugby union until four years ago - but that now he was on the verge of one of the finest moments in the nation's recent sporting history.

He added: ``Who would have thought that I would be where I am today - a member of the Lions' Test team with the chance of winning the series in Melbourne on Saturday?''
