Falcons-Leinster off again
January 6, 2002

Newcastle's Heineken Cup clash with Leinster has been called off for the second time in 24 hours.

The Pool Six encounter was originally scheduled for yesterday but was rearranged for Sunday due to a frozen pitch at Kingston Park.

The club were confident that the pitch would thaw in time for a 2.30pm kick-off but parts of the ground remain frozen.

A new date for the fixture is yet to be announced.

Newcastle director of rugby Rob Andrew accused Leinster of pressurising referee Gareth Simmons into the postponement.

"They had no intention of playing - the team didn't even turn up," said Andrew.

Simmons had held a pitch inspection and was happy for the game to go ahead but Andrew claimed the referee had been put under "a great deal of pressure" not to play the match by Leinster officials.
