Ireland's Alain Rolland has been chosen to referee the Rugby World Cup final.

Rolland, the former international scrum-half, becomes the first northern hemisphere official to take charge of the final since 1995.

England's semi-final against the hosts France in Paris on Saturday will be refereed by South African Jonathan Kaplan.

New Zealander Steve Walsh will take charge of the South Africa versus Argentina semi-final, while Paul Honiss has been chosen to referee the bronze medal match.

Rolland, who combines his refereeing duties with a career as a mortgage broker, is officiating at his second World Cup.

He has taken charge of four matches including England's quarter-final win over Australia in Marseille last weekend.
