The new season is fast-approaching and the battle lines for many competitions have already been drawn to whet your appetite. Make sure you're ready!

The race for Tri Nations glory is hotting up with all three southern hemisphere giants in the mix.

Australia, New Zealand and South Africa will all be heading north at the end of the year for a busy period of autumn internationals.

The northern hemisphere giants will progress from there to the 2009 Six Nations.

We're also set for another busy domestic season with the English Premiership leading the way.

Europe's premier club competition, the Heineken Cup, will take centre stage in October alongside the European Challenge Cup.

The leading English and Welsh clubs will battle it out once again for Anglo-Welsh Cup supremacy.

Celtic honours will be up for grabs in this season's Magners League while across the channel the battle for French Top 14 glory will begin in August.

Aside from all that there is the IRB Sevens which will provide the leading exponents of the 7-a-side code plenty of opportunities to tune up ahead of the 2009 Rugby World Cup Sevens in Dubai.
