Mixed emotions for Red Bull drivers after qualifying
Webber, who had to sit out the important last 20 minutes of free practice 3 due to a technical glitch, confessed himself happy with the way he responded.
"It is always tight around here and trying to get it all together is not the easiest for us," said Webber. "We were pushing on the limit for the chicanes and it is easy to overcook them. So the guys did a good job and we were up and down with wing levels with everyone in the same boat trying to get the best set-up around Monza.
"It didn't help getting the car late after P3 and the problems we had but let's stay cool. Quali went pretty well to be honest and it's not a bad front row in terms of Fernando flying today and Lewis obviously a difference in pace with their downforce level."
In contrast, Vettel was left a frustrated and puzzled man after he failed to replicate the pace he had shown in free practice.
"We had a decent pace so I don't know where it went wrong this afternoon," said Vettel. "The speeds I had yesterday in practice and this morning with more fuel than in qualifying I was 3-4km/h quicker than this afternoon. I don't think there was a lot of wind going on so I don't know where the speed went. The corners seemed to be all right but obviously in a straight line you don't need to be a genius to go fast."
