Hello and welcome to our coverage of Wales v Argentina, live from the Millennium Stadium. For both sides today is a case of putting right the wrongs after disappointing outings last week. For Argentina, who were level pegging with England until Matt Banahan's try robbed them of a draw their sterling defensive work probably deserved, for Wales it was another unconvincing win, as a side stocked with Lions and experienced internationals barely held on to defeat a spirited Samoan team.

The problem for both teams of late has been tries, though for Argentina, this is hardly as unusual problem as it is for a Wales team that has attacking flair littered throughout the side. Indeed, it's not hard to see why the men in red have come in for huge criticism in the Welsh press this week - they made seven line breaks against Samoa and only crossed the whitewash once, hardly the return a team with Wales' attacking threat should be offering against such lowly opposition.

Both teams will look to injuries to justify part of their lack of cutting edge of late. From Argentina's point of view, the lack of veteran playmaker Filipe Contepomi and fly-half Juan Martin Hernandez, who is perhaps the best 10 in the world on his day.

On the Welsh side British and Irish Lions Lee Byrne and Mike Phillips are injured and their unique attacking qualities has no doubt been missed, but perhaps the most keenly missed player is Lions tighthead prop Adam Jones.

Jones who was injured in South Africa and has yet to return, has grown into one of the finest at his position in the world, and the dearth of depth behind him in Wales has led to veteran Ospreys loosehead Paul James coming in. While the 27-year-old gave a decent account of himself against New Zealand (albeit in a game where neither side seemed that interested in scrummaging), he appeared to seriously struggle against the hardly dominating Fiji front row, and no doubt Argentina's front row of Roncero, Ladesma and Scelzo, perhaps the finest unit in world rugby, will be licking their lips at the thought of putting him under pressure from the get-go.

But even if Wales do struggle at scrum time, they have enough attacking threat from Shane Williams, James Hook, Leigh Halfpenny and Stephen Jones to cause any team problems and one of the key areas of interest will be the Welsh midfield. The centre partnership of Jamie Roberts and Tom Shanklin has been widely criticised for being too one dimensional and lacking creativity, but Shanklin misses the game today and Scarlets youngster Jonathan Davies will start in Cardiff for the first time.

To keep up with all the action from the Millennium Stadium, minute-by-minute, join us for kickoff at 14.30 GMT

14:25 Argentina come out onto the pitch and form a huddle in their half, meanwhile the now customary flamethrowers around the pitch announce the presence of the home side, led out by captain Ryan Jones

14:26 A few Argentinian flags dotted around the stadium wave passionately as the Argentinian anthem is played.

14:28 After a polite round of applause the stadium, the stadium stands to sing the Welsh anthem, as usual it's a rousing affair, but the patches of seats around the top teir show that this isn't quite a full house.

1

Irish referee George Clancy gives the signal and Fernandez gets the game underway. The ball is knocked back by the Pumas and secured but it's spilled and Jones picks it up. The ball goes through the hands and Roberts breaks up to halfway on the touchline.

2

A pass from Jones somehow misses three pairs of Welsh hands it's picked up by Charteris who runs into space outside on the left up to the 10m line. Roncero is penalised for going in at the side and Halfpenny will have a penalty shot.

3

It's a long penalty from a tough angle and Halfpenny doesn't quite have the legs on that kick and Argentina clear well up to halfway. Solid lineout from Wales and the ball is shipped out from Davies to Roberts who looks to smash through the midfield, but the ball comes loose in contact and it'll be an Argentina scrum on halfway

4

First test at the scrum and Wales are penalised for hitting too early and it's a free kick, Lobbe takes it on but he fumbles and Wales will counter. Wales have listened to the criticism this week they're really keeping it in hand.

5

A nice reverse pass from Martyn Williams has Shane Williams in space, he chips over the top into the 22 and chases but the bounce is kind to Borges, who just gets there and Argentina can clear

6

Another solid lineout from Wales and Cooper passes to Jones who passes to Davies, but the young centre can't secure it and it's an knock on just inside the halfway. It's a solid scrum and Fernandez sends through a lovely grubber than goes out at the 22.

7

Wales secure lineout ball again and Cooper box kicks Fernandez looks to take it on at the halfway but he's smothered and it's very slow ball for Argentina, Wales smothering them well.

8 3 - 0

Argentina try the maul but they're going backwards and Fernandez sends up the high kick, superbly fielded by Hook and Jones can do likewise. Lobbe gather the ball but Wales' cover is up very quickly to smother him and they win the penalty just inside the Argentina 10m line. Great work from Wales there. An unconvincing kick from Jones but it's over and Wales have the lead.

9

The first real bit of aerial tennis of the day as Hook and Agulla trade several kicks. Hook's final kick is too long though and it's a 22 drop out. Andy Powell has been complaining to the ref about cheap shots since the penalty now and he's clearly very annoyed.

10

A long drop out and Hook returns it but it's too long again from Hook and it goes dead to boos from the Welsh crowd.

11

Halfpenny takes the kick and sends up a Garyowen, Argentina just secure it but it's knocked on and Wales will have a good attacking position at the scrum.

12

Wales secure the ball and it's taken on through Davies and Powell, they're trying to inject some pace but Ryan Jones goes on his own and the Argentina forwards quickly turn him and they clear their lines.

13

Hook slices a long kick but Roberts looks to have got there and sprung Hook down the right hand side, but it's judged to have gone forward and it's an Argentina scrum on halfway

14

Wales wheel the scrum and Cooper gets a foot in and gets the ball out and the ref says play on, Hook comes into the line on the left and moves up over halfway. Wiliams, Roberts and Hook show deft hands on the right hand side and they're up to the 10m line but Argentina are penalised and it's another kickable penalty

15

The referee is having words with Lobbe about Roncero who appeared to headbutt Martyn Williams

16

Incredible quick thinking by Stephen Jones, he sees all the Argentinian players are switched off and he takes the tap and he just has the legs to run in a try in from the corner. He looks to have injured himself there but that was a tremendously intelligent piece of opportunism by the fly-half there.

17 8 - 0

No messing from Jones who's fit to take a superb touchline conversion.

18 10 - 0

Argentina look a bit shellshocked and who can blame them. Hook sends up a Garryowen and Agulla does well to stay in touch, Figuerola looks to break into space but he's caught at halfway and Argentina will reset.

19

Comuzzi looks to take the ball from Figuerola but the winger knocks it on and Wales will have a scrum. Gethin Jenkins is having some treatment now, that could be worrying for Wales.

20

The scrum reset for the first time today, it collapses again and Roncero is penalised for collapsing the scrum, could've gone either way that.

21

Superb touch kick from Jones who brings them from halfway to five metres out.

22

Solid lineout from Wales but Powell loses the ball as he takes it on and Argentina can clears. Very sloppy. Speaking of sloppy, Williams looks to field the kick but knocks it on

23

Solid scrum from Argentina and they clear up to Hook who clears and Argentina will counter. Lobbe takes it on and the kick through from Fernandez is bounced into the hands of Agulla, but Wales get the turnover and look to counter

24

Number out wide and Williams looks for space but he's smothered at the 10m line and Matt Rees takes it on and clear. Wales nearly turn the ball over after they chase well, but Lobbe nearly makes a break but he's smothered and Powell does a superb job knocking it loose.

25

Argentina getting a torrid time at the scrum by the referee, who rightly penalises Roncero for not binding and Wales will bring it up to the 10m line.

26

Wales are making territory here but time and again they're going for the direct option and getting penalised, this time it's Halfpenny who goes it alone just outside the 22.

27

Big kick from Fernandez who brings the Pumas up to the 22.

28

Solid lineout and Comuzzi takes it in midfield but that's excellent work at the breakdown and Wales get the turnover, Halfpenny kicks long and brilliantly and we're all the way back inside the Puma 22.

29

Great work from Wales to steal the lineout but Powell's audacious flick to Cooper is silly and Cooper can only send up a Garryowen and Argentina call the mark. Hook fields it well and looks to counter, but he's caught and penalised for holding on at the halfway line.

30

Fernandez kicks up to the 22 and the just manage to secure the lineout. They're going backwards though and the chip through is attempted by Fernandez, but it dribbles out at the 22.

31

Messy at the breakdown as Ryan Jones is penalised for taking the man out at the scrum on the 10m line in front of the posts and Rodriguez will take the shot at goal

32

It looks good but its off the posts and just for a moment the ball was loose as Wales had switched off and Fernandez nearly gathers it on the chase, but he knocks it on.

33

Solid Welsh scrum and they clear, Agulla looks to chip into space but there's no awareness and no chase and it's another Welsh lineout on their 22.

34

Another comfortable lineout, Alun Wyn Jones takes and Cooper can clear, Lobbe fields it and Argentina will try to put it through the phases

35

Wales are ferocious at the breakdown and Powell and Jones nearly win a turnover, but it's a scrum to Argentina as it isn't coming out.

36

Wales are penalised at the scrum, despite a ridiculously non-straight feed from Argentina and Rodriguez will have another shot at goal.

37 10 - 3

Better work from the centre this time and he strokes it over from out wide on the left.

38

Solid restart from Argentina who put it through a few phases before clearing up to halfway.

39 13 - 3

Solid lineout from Wales, but Jones' pass is to no-one, Hook manages to gather it out wide on the right and he almost looks to break through, he's just caught through and Roncero is penalised for going in at the side. Jones will go for goal.

40

Jones kicks from the 10m line just to the right of the posts and he makes no mistake sending Wales into halftime with a 10-point cushion.

Well Wales have their try and the lead, thanks to an inspired bit of thinking from Stephen Jones, but the Welsh crowd and the Welsh management will be far from happy with that first 40 minutes. Time and again Wales have either kicked possession aimlessly away, got into a promising position only to knock the ball on, or have run themselves up blind alleys. There's a real lack of intelligence and expansiveness from Wales so far, they've hardly kept the ball in hand for more than a few phases since they scored the try, no doubt Warren Gatland will have strong words at halftime.

From the Argentinian point of view, they'll be very frustrated with the way the scrum has been policed and the captain Lobbe was frequently remonstrating with the ref after the set-piece. Beyond that, they appear fairly limited and you get the sense they will have to live off Welsh mistakes if they are to have any hope of winning this game.

40 18 - 3

Jones gets us underway with a kick to the far left. It's gathered by Argentina. Figuerola looks to kick but Charteris charges it down and Shane Williams he gatherers and dances and dives through five tacklers and scores. Amazing start from Wales and a great individual effort from Williams.

41 20 - 3

An easy conversion from Jones and Wales have started emphatically. But they mess up the restart and Argentina have the ball at the 22, they aren't going anywhere but Jones is penalised for slowing it down and it's a kick in front of the posts

42

Ryan Jones has been warned by the referee about penalties inside the 22 and he'll have to be on his best behaviour now.

43 20 - 6

An easy kick for Rodriguez and he makes no mistake.

44

Jones kicks short again and Lobbe gathers and runs it up, Figuerola gets the box kick off and it was touched in flight so Ryan Jones' athletic effort to keep it in is for nought.

45

Overthrown at the lineout by Ladesma and Martyn Williams picks it off, Davies takes it on and Wales start to rumble upfield. The ball is up to the 10m line and Gareth Cooper is shoved off the ball at the ruck by Ledesma and he's penalised for not coming in through the gate.

46

Jones lines up the kick at the 10m line out on the left, he's hooked it though and it just goes the wrong side of the left hand post.

47

Abadie picks up the loose ball from the drop out but the ball has been knocked on and it's a Wales scrum. Good pickup from Jones at the base and Cooper unleashes Davies and Roberts who smash upto the 22, but Argentina slow it down.

48

James takes it into contact and it squirts out, Borges takes it and clears but Charteris is penalised at the 10m line for a shoulder charge and it's a really stupid penalty that's very kickable.

49 20 - 9

Rodriguez's kick squeaks inside the left hand post and Argentina nibble away at the Wales lead. Lobbe takes yet another kickoff and rumbles up to the 22. It's cleared to Hook who'll send up a Garryowen, he chases it well and plants Rodriguez into the turf as he secures the ball.

50

Fernandez ignores the overlap as he kicks straight to Williams who runs back and looks to have let Roberts loose on the right touchline, but the pass is very, very forward and that's sloppy from the current IRB Player of the Year

51

Messy at the scrum as it's upset and James is penalised for shoving off the man and Lobbe has signalled another scrum.

52

Wales hitting to early at the scrum and it's a free kick, Lobbe takes it quick and offloads to Figuerola, he looks for the return ball but Powell's hit causes him to knock on.

53

Wales scrum under intense pressure, but they just get it and Cooper clears. Comuzzi shows some skills to avoid the tackle and offloads to Ledesma. The ball is shipped wide and there's some space outside, but Davies and Roberts do good job of wrapping up Teisi and he's penalised for holding on.

54 23 - 9

Halfpenny attempts a 53 metre penalty wide on the left, and it's a fabulous effort bisecting the posts with a big distance to spare.

55

Another sloppy restart from Wales but the Pumas spill the ball and Hook gathers, he does well not to be put into touch at the 22, and Jones can clear it deep.

56

Comuzzi makes a break up the left hand touchline and he recycles it well, Lobbe batters forward and they're up to the 22, but Rodriguez's pass to Tiesi is forward and it's a Welsh scrum.

57

Solid scrum from Wales and it's cleared deep by Jones, the return is sent up to halfway where it's knocked forward and it's a Puma scrum.

58

Jenkins' first scrum at the tighthead side is penalised for going to early again and Argentina will reset. They secure ball and kick tactically to the Welsh 22.

59 23 - 14

First sloppy Welsh lineout of the day, Charteris fumbles but it's a quick penalty. Cooper takes it quick and it's shipped out to Davies, the debutant goes for an ill advised kick, it's charged down and Rodriguez runs it in out on left touchline.

60 23 - 16

Rodriguez kick from his own try is superb, right down the middle, and Argentina are back within a converted try.

61

Another odd restart from Jones and Argentina will easily clear. Jones sends up a high kick and tackles Lobbe as he receives it and Argentina will reset.

62

Lobbe has been everywhere today and he fields another kick, Borges tries to run it out of the 22, but Hook just gets to him and Wales are right in there, somehow he's not pinged for holding on and Argentina clear through Agulla's sliced kick

63

TIdy work from Wales who are looking to camp in the Argentine 22. They're putting it through the phases but not really getting anywhere.

64

Rodriguez turns the ball over at the breakdown and offloads to Lobbe, who kicks on, he's checked as he chases and is in the middle of complaining to the ref when Shane Williams receives the ball, spots the gap, and bursts through the line, evades the full back and touches down, great awareness from the Welshman there.

65 30 - 16

No mistake with the conversion by Jones.

66

Decent work at the kickoff this time for Wales and Argentina are penalised, Peel takes it quick and Martyn Williams and Halfpenny work the ball up to halfway.

67

Big gap on the outside at the 10m line and Wales ship it out to Roberts who bursts up to halfway, it's recycled and taken on, but Ledesma is blatantly lying all over the ball and not rolling away, despite his protests he's penalised and Jones kicks for territory up to the 22.

68

Solid lineout again from Wales and they look to maul it in, but they can't get it moving. Williams takes it on and it's shipped out. Coopers wild pass sets them back but Wales are really fizzing now, they want a fourth try.

69

Thomas takes it into contact but Argentina turn it over. They break out of the 22 and there's a big overlap out wide, but they go inside to Comuzzi, who loses it forward in the tackle. Opportunity missed there.

70

Wales get the penalty at the scrum for Argentina taking it down, and Halfpenny will go for another long penalty.

71

This one is in front of the posts from 48 metres out, not easy but he's hit a harder attempt today. It drifts a tad to the right but it's there and Wales are two converted scores ahead with eight minutes to go.

72 33 - 16

Roberts secures the restart and Jones clears long and Rodriguez chips over the top, but Peel secures it and Wales can move up through Bishop. Argentina are penalised at the breakdown and Peel takes it quick, moving up to the 22.

73

James is turned over on the floor and Argentina clear but the game is really opening up now, both sides attacking from deep

74

Wales really starting to fire here and Martyn Williams is at the centre of everything, but again they can't hold on the ball and it's turned over. Looped pass from Tiesi to Rodriguez is forward and that's another mistake that's ruined a promising move.

75

Another early hit from Wales and Argentina have the free kick, they move it up to halfway and Lobbe takes it on. Rodriguez takes it into contact and spills but it's gone backwards.

76

Argentina going sideways in their own half, the forwards try to offload it but Wales are there to smother them and Ryan Jones drives Leonardi back and then a massive hit from Gethin Jenkins on Figerola, who does very well to hold on to it.

77

Wales get the turnover at the breakdown and Peel goes for the cross kick, but James can't get there

78

An overthrow from Ledesma and Lydiate looks to have the line at his mercy but it's called back for Ryan Jones holding his opposite number at the back.

79

Argentina have it at their 10m line and they're trying to create something, but Wales are stifling everything and they're just going sideways.

80

Big his from Tom James on Rodriguez as it's passed out wide, the Argentine knocks it on and that's the end of the game.

So a comfortable win for Wales in the end, but the scoreline flatters them somewhat, it's no coincidence that Fernandez Lobbe was given the Man Of The Match award. Wales were uninspired for much of the game and against less limited opposition they surely would have struggled. Indeed, all three of Wales' tries were the direct result of a mistake from Argentina. That said, the scrum wasn't the disaster it could have been, they scored three tries and the likes of Martyn Williams, Shane Williams and Stephen Jones all showed their class.

That said there's an awful lot to do before next week and they will have to cut out the mistakes or Australia will punish them for it.
