Grand Slam-chasing England lead the way with four nominations on a 12-man shortlist for Six Nations player of the tournament.

In a change to the format from recent years, every player named Man of the Match during the first four rounds of the Championship have been included on the list.

England wing Chris Ashton, who scored a record-equalling six tries in victories over Wales and Italy, fly-half Toby Flood, flanker James Haskell and lock Tom Palmer have all been included.

Wales flanker Sam Warburton and fly-half James Hook make the list, as do Ireland duo Sean O'Brien and Ronan O'Gara, while France captain Thierry Dusautoir is joined among the nominees by Maxime Medard.

Italy, who beat Les Bleus for the first time on Saturday, are represented by scrum-half Fabio Semenzato and fullback Andrea Masi.

The only country not represented are Scotland, who are still without a victory after their 22-16 defeat at Twickenham on Sunday. The winner will be chosen by supporters, who can cast their votes at rbs6nations.com until midnight on March 20.
