Stade Francais flanker Mauro Bergamasco has been called up to the Italy squad for a two-day Rugby World Cup preparation camp in Cesena following injury.

The 32-year-old openside missed this year's Six Nations with a shoulder injury but is now fit to bolster Italy's preparations for the tournament in New Zealand. The Azzurri have been drawn in Pool C alongside Australia, Ireland, Italy, Russia and the USA.

Bergamasco is the only overseas-based player in the initial squad and is also one of 16 players who will bolster Italy 'A' at this year's Churchill Cup in England. Joining him will be Alberto De Marchi, Tommaso D'Apice, Valerio Bernabo, Joshua Furno, Cornelius Van Zyl, Mauro Bergamasco, Manoa Vosawai, Riccardo Bocchino, DuRandt Gerber, Denis Majstorovic, Gilberto Pavan, Andrea Pratichetti, Matteo Pratichetti, Michele Sepe, Giulio Toniolatti and Ruggero Trevisan.

A number of senior players are unavailable for the May 24-26 get-together due to injury, including fly-halves Kris Burton and Luciano Orquera, Aironi lock Carlo del Fava and Treviso scrum-half Edoardo Gori.
