Italy got their autumn internationals series off to a strong start with a battling 24-13 win over Samoa.

Simone Favaro and Sergio Parisse scored for the Azzurri while Kelly Haimona converted his side's second try and kicked four penalties in the comeback win.

Samoa had led 10-3 at half-time thanks to a 28th-minute penalty by Tusi Pisi, who also converted Jack Lam's 34th-minute try.

However, after the break Italy hit back, firstly through a Haimona penalty with Favaro then crossing the whitewash in the 48th minute.

The Italy fly-half missed the conversion but added a penalty and the extras when number eight Parisse touched down in the 66th minute.

Haimona wrapped up victory with his fourth successful penalty attempt with six minutes remaining as Italy finished the game with 14 men after substitute Alberto De Marchi was sent to the sin bin.
