Joiner signs for Reivers
July 2, 2000

Scotland wing Craig Joiner revealed Sunday he has quit English champions Leicester to sign a two-year deal with Edinburgh Reivers.

The 26-year-old becomes the fourth international squad player to swap the
Allied Dunbar Premiership for the super-district this summer, following the path of Richard Metcalfe, Don Mackinnon and David Officer.

Joiner, who was only a late call-up to Scotland's original New Zealand party, capped a successful tour with a solid display in Saturday's 48-14 second-Test defeat to the All Blacks in Auckland. "I have had a new lease of life over here on tour and I feel I have taken some fairly large steps to end up in the second-Test team," he said of the reasons behind his decision.

"I see moving north as a fresh opportunity to show the Scottish public, and hopefully the Scottish selectors, that I am good enough to play international rugby." Joiner, who won his 24th cap Saturday, admitted he had become slightly stale after four years at Welford Road, where he was never able to pin down a regular starting spot despite contributing to both their title successes of the past two seasons.
