The citings lodged against ASM Clermont Auvergne players Elvis Vermeulen and Marius Joubert have been dismissed by the European Rugby Cup's independent judiciary.

The No.8 and centre were cited following the Round 6 Heineken Cup Pool 5 match against Llanelli Scarlets on Saturday, 19 January, 2008.

The citings, both for "alleged contact with the eye/eye area", were lodged outside the 50-hour citing window following a request by the Citing Commissioner, Budge Pountney, to extend the citing deadline.

However, Rod McKenzie, the Chairman of the independent Disciplinary Committee appointed to consider the citing complaints, found there were insufficient grounds to extend the citing deadline and accordingly dismissed the citings.

The decision means that Vermeulen is free to play in France's Six Nations Championship opener against Scotland this weekend.

Vermeulen was picked out by new France coach Marc Lievremont at this week's squad announcement as the best player in his position available to France and has since been named to start at Murrayfield.
