Tanerau Latimer won his international debut as cover for influential All Blacks skipper Richie McCaw, stepping in on the openside flank for Tests against France and Italy in 2009.
Latimer had come to prominence in the Super 14 with the Chiefs, helping them to a losing effort in the 2009 final in his third season with the franchise. He graduated to Super Rugby from the ranks of Bay of Plenty.
Following his debut he was included in the All Blacks squad for the 2009 Tri-Nations, deputising for a fit-again McCaw.
