Highlanders sign young Argentinian prop
October 3, 2013

Young Argentinian tight-head prop Matias Diaz has signed a one-year Super Rugby deal with the Highlanders. Diaz, 20, plays for the Teque Rugby Club in Argentina, and made his Test debut for the Pumas this year against Uruguay in the South American Championship.

Highlanders head coach Jamie Joseph says Diaz will be a welcome addition. "Matias is a good young player from what I have seen so far," he said. "He's already proven he can play at international level against the best teams in the world, so his talent is evident."

After making his Test debut against Uruguay, Diaz turned out for Argentina under-20 at the Junior World Championships in France, then was re-selected for the Pumas squad in the Rugby Championship and most recently played against South Africa in Soweto.

Diaz will join the Highlanders squad after his international commitments conclude in November.
