All Blacks wing Cory Jane takes another stride in his return from injury in Napier on Thursday after being named to start for Wellington in their ITM Cup game against Hawke's Bay. Jane will play at fullback for the competition leaders in his first start since seriously injuring his knee at a Hurricanes training session in January.

He looked sharp, although had little involvement after coming on at halftime, during the 38-16 win over Auckland on Saturday. The 43-Test veteran has set a target of returning to the All Blacks for their tour of Japan and Europe in November.

The match at McLean Park is his last regular season chance to prove his form although Wellington are also guaranteed at least one playoff game - a home semi-final against Counties Manukau next week - after guaranteeing the top qualifying spot with their win over Auckland.

Jane's selection at fullback pushes Charlie Ngatai to second five-eighth in one of three changes to the team to face Hawke's Bay. Samoan international winger Alapati Leiua will play his 50th game for the province.

Wellington: Cory Jane, Joe Hil Tim Bateman Charlie Ngatai, Alapati Leiua, Lima Sopoaga, Tomasi Palu, Victor Vito (capt), Ardie Savea, Brad Shields, Kaipati Gaualofa, Mark Reddish, Jeffery Toomaga-Allen, Motu Matu'u, Reggie Goodes. Reserves: John Schwalger, Eric Sione, Api Naikatini, Faifili Levave, Genesis Mamea, Kayne Hammington, Afa Fa'atau
