The Crusaders' stuttering start to the Super Rugby season received another blow after confirmation that wing Robbie Fruean fractured his arm during Saturday's loss to the Chiefs.

An x-ray has confirmed Fruean fractured his right arm during last night's 40-16 defeat in Hamilton, and he is scheduled to see a specialist on Monday.

The Chiefs scored five tries to one, the bonus-point win lifting them to the top of the Super Rugby standings alongside the Hurricanes.

The Crusaders have one win, a 26-20 victory over the Highlanders last week, after they opened their account with a shock 20-10 loss to the Rebels. They have a bye next week, before lining up against the Lions in Christchurch on March 14.
