Jules Bianchi has been handed a three-place grid penalty and reprimanded for impeding Paul di Resta during qualifying for the Korean Grand Prix.

Di Resta caught the Marussia at the penultimate corner on his flying lap, while Bianchi was just speeding up to start his own flying lap in Q1. Ultimately, di Resta made it through to Q2 while Bianchi dropped out in 21st place, but having been summoned to the stewards Bianchi was hit with the penalty as he had been warned over the radio.

With the original penalty only dropping Bianchi down one place to the back of the grid, the stewards also imposed a reprimand. Speaking before the penalty was announced di Resta claimed he felt the effects of the incident even in Q2.

"The incident with Jules; obviously he was the one who affected my lap but unfortunately I think it cost me a little bit in Q2 because I didn't have the confidence to put the front wing on that I needed to based on the insight that I had with the car beforehand," di Resta said. "Whether that was one position out of place I don't know … at the end of the day we got through. If it had cost us getting through it would have obviously been quite a downward turn but the important things is we've given ourselves hopefully a chance of scoring points."

Bianchi's reprimand leaves him on two for this season and therefore one away from an automatic 10-place grid penalty. Charles Pic is also now on two reprimands after failing to stop at the weighbridge during Friday practice.
