Felipe Massa thinks he could have challenged Mark Webber's Red Bull for second at the Korean Grand Prix had he not run up behind his team-mate Fernando Alonso in third.

Massa finished a dutiful fourth behind Alonso after closing on the lead Ferrari during the second stint of the race. He eventually finished 6.2s shy of his team-mate but felt he had the performance to be on the podium.

"I think today the pace was very good to finish in the podium and maybe even to fight with Webber," he said. "I was happy to take the best from the car and to go out and I think that was very good for me."

Massa said he was happy regardless of whether he was on the podium or not.

"The car showed great pace, for sure, Red Bull is really quick in race conditions as well but I'm happy," he said. "We managed to put great pace into the car from the beginning to the end, we managed to overtake cars and it was important for me to be alone and use my car in the best moment possible. I think that was really good for me and I was happy to get out of the car and know there was nothing more I could do today."
