Sir Graham Henry has encouraged Argentina to remain true to their roots during their maiden Rugby Championship.

The Rugby World Cup-winning All Blacks coach has been on board with the Pumas as a consultant, helping to bring them up to speed as they take on Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Argentina coach Santiago Phelan is currently preparing his side to face the All Blacks in Wellington next weekend, and he confirmed that Henry's advice had been to hold on to their rugby heritage.

"We want to take as much from him and ensure we take the best parts to make us a better team," Phelan told allblacks.com. "We spoke to him about how we function and he made it clear that Argentina should retain its core values.

"The scrum, maul and defence. He doesn't [want to] try and change the character of Argentina rugby. [Henry was] just adding little things to our team and keeping the good things that the Argentina rugby philosophy has."

Phelan has been boosted by the recovery of fly-half Juan Martin Hernandez from injury to face the All Blacks, having missed their 16-16 draw with the Springboks.
