The Wallabies may play a warm-up match during their three-week camp ahead of the three-Test series against the British & Irish Lions in June and July, The Australian reports.

Australian Rugby Union officials are seeking to schedule a fixture, despite the crowded calendar, to boost the Wallabies' campaign to retain the Tom Richards Cup.

The Lions play the Barbarians and five tour matches before meeting the Wallabies in the first Test in Brisbane on June 22.

"Robbie Deans [the Wallabies coach] has a few thoughts on a potential warm-up game," ARU chief executive Bill Pulver said in The Australian. "I suspect there will be a warm-up match. It would be desirable to have a hit-out. The Wallabies played the New Zealand Maori in 2001. I think Robbie has something similar in mind. Ideally, the Wallabies would have had a series of hit-outs. The schedule is what it is. It's not perfect, but it's too late to change it."

Pulver said, however, that he was happy with the Wallabies' proposed preparation. "It is essentially what Robbie Deans has asked for and I'm intent on supporting him in beating the Lions," he said.
