British & Irish Lions prop Gethin Jenkins has been ruled out of Saturday's warm-up fixture against the Barbarians due to injury.

Jenkins has often battled calf problems during the latter stages of his career and his latest setback will see him miss the first match of the Lions Tour in Hong Kong on Saturday. Coach Warren Gatland said that Jenkins will return to training soon, and he hopes that the Welshman will be back in time for one of the warm-up matches against either the Western Force or the Queensland Reds in early June.

"It's three or four days before he's probably up and running," Gatland said. "He's had ongoing problems with his calf for a long, long time but the physios are confident he'll be available for the second or the third game. So it shouldn't hamper him too much

Jenkins, who played for Toulon this year, helping them to Heineken Cup glory, will return to the Cardiff Blues next season. The veteran has made 97 appearances for Wales and has been capped five times for the Lions in his career.

The Lions will play three Tests in Australia, starting on June 22 in Brisbane.
