Jim Pollock scored a late try for Scotland to snatch a 25-25 draw against the All Blacks at Murrayfield, to match their best ever Test performance against New Zealand. 'Lucky Jim' Pollock chased down David Johnston's kick to pull the scores level, but fullback Peter Dods missed the conversion to seal an historic victory. All Black flanker Mark Shaw had a try disallowed by French referee Rene Hourquet with just seconds left on the clock.

1966
A 19-year-old scrum-half, and student at Cardiff Training College, Gareth Edwards, partnered David Watkins in the 'Probables' in the first Welsh Trial at Maesteg, losing the match 3-0. Edwards went on to win his first Welsh cap in April the following year and made 53 consecutive Test appearances, scoring 20 tries and sealing his place in the history books as one of the world's greatest players.

1950
British & Irish Lions and Wales centre Bleddyn Williams, nicknamed 'The Prince of Centres', contemplated what is believed to be a record offer to transfer to rugby league. He declared: "It is a very big offer", but subsequently decided to stay in the Union game.

1996
Western Samoa stunned Ireland with a convincing 40-25 midweek win under floodlights at Lansdowne Road. Earl Va'a scored 15 points on his debut at fly-half. Ireland prop Paul Wallace scored a consolatory try for Ireland as the vistors ran home five tries.

1967
Bob Hiller's place-kicking and Vic Harding's leadership help the London Counties to a deserved 14-9 victory over the Wallabies at Twickenham.

1949
Cardiff scrum-half Rex Willis established himself as a likely successor to Haydn Tanner for both club and country with an outstanding display in his club's 11-0 victory over Newport at Rodney Parade.
