Gloucester have announced that an investigation has confirmed a bottle was thrown at match officials from the crowd at the end of Saturday's feisty derby match with Bath, but that it was a plastic soft-drink bottle.

The club, who are already facing an RFU investigation after finishing the game with 11 men on the field, said they had established " a bottle was thrown towards the tunnel area from seats occupied by a group of teenage boys on an escorted rugby tour. The individuals, were on a day out, accompanied by their school teachers, which included watching the game.

"The individual concerned has admitted to the act, and is extremely remorseful about his actions. Gloucester Rugby are liaising with the club and individual with regards to appropriate action being taken.

"Gloucester Rugby would like to stress that the individual involved is neither a member or regular supporter of the club."
